Testimonials

Fabulous course and teacher – far better than any other class I have been to. A great opportunity to have ‘me’ time. - Laura

I was unsure about signing up to a whole course, having never been before. It turned out to be the best thing I have done. I was really encouraged to maintain a yoga practice and I have got much better. Loved the tips for practicing at home. - Sophie

What to bring:

We provide base mats, blankets, blocks, belts and eye pillows.

For extra comfort and hygiene you can bring a yoga mat to roll out on top, but it is up to you.

You may want a drink and a towel if you get hot, and a jumper/socks for relaxation.

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can stretch in for example, shorts or tracksuit bottoms or leggings.

We practise yoga in barefeet but please bring socks for relaxation.

Can I eat before class?

It is advisable to avoid eating at least an hour before class as we twist and do core moves that may be uncomfortable with a full stomach. However, if you are hungry and you know your blood sugar is low do have a banana, or a piece of toast or alternative snack.

Frequent Concerns:

"I'm not at all flexible".  There is an unfortunate misconception about yoga that you need to be flexible or confident enough to stand on your head.  This is completely untrue.  Hatha Yoga is a physical practice within your natural range of motion.  You will be encouraged to find your edge within a safe capacity but never beyond.  Yoga is an energy practice, flexibility a resulting bonus. People can start yoga not being able to touch their knees let alone their toes. And our small classes mean we can pay enough attention to ensure any advanced postures are entered into safely with complete awareness.

"Will I be the only man in the class?"

Although not guaranteed, it is highly unlikely.  Most yoga styles are founded by male yoga gurus and thanks to professionals like Andy Murray, more and more men are realizing the benefits of yoga and heading to a class.  Yoga helps relieve or prevent injuries, enhance other sports and use muscles you'd forgotten.  You may find some poses focused on the hips or quadriceps a little harder than women in the class but rest assured there will always be strength poses in a class taking you to a great place.

"I'm not sure what to expect"

It's always a little nerve racking going to your first class.  That's one of the reasons we do courses.  You will all start together at the same level and Tish will quickly give you techniques to relax and enjoy yourself.  The first class includes a short introduction to yoga and then we get straight on to bringing awareness to the body and mind and introducing new moves to make you feel great.  The atmosphere is very relaxed, there are no expectations, and put simply you will have a good time.  If you really don't enjoy the experience you will get your money back less that one class.

"I will miss the first class"

Although it's a good idea to try and get to one of the beginners classes in the first week it is not essential. and you will quickly catch up. We take students no up to 5 weeks within the course.  We may spend a few minutes before class running over a few basic techniques so please email

Should I sign up to the course or can I come as I please?

The courses have a theme and therefore provide more structure and background information in order to gently progress through the postures, providing the ability to work on specific requirements such as strength, flexibility, alignment, relaxation etc. However if you find it tricky to commit to a course you are welcome to drop-in to any class. This is subject to availability but as long as there is space you are in.

What if I can’t make some classes within the course?

If you cannot make your selected class you can make up a class at any time during the course. There is no need to notify us however it is subject to availability. Please make yourself known at the beginning of the class.

Can I carry over my unused classes into the following term?

You can carry over missed classes to the next course, provided you join that course. This means doing more than one class a week where you can. Please note that making up classes is subject to space but we will always do our best to get you in.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind and decide yoga is not for me?

Refunds will be issued if you let Tish know immediately after the first class. She will refund the length of the course less the first class. However refunds cannot be issued due to circumstance changes after the first week, even if it is unforeseen such as a location move or an injury. In exceptional circumstances please contact Tish to discuss alternative options.

Additionally refunds will be issued if you discover you are pregnant but again this is only possible after the first class. Pre-natal classes will be run once during the week and at weekends. Please check the timetable for details.

Can I do yoga if I’m pregnant?

Yes you can do yoga after 12 weeks and it is very beneficial. However, if you have not done yoga before, you should not do any yoga before your first scan as it is not advisable to try anything new.

Which class is suitable if I’m pregnant?

All of Anoushka’s classes can be tailored to accommodate pregnant ladies at any time from 12 weeks onwards. The adult classes may have challenging elements and are not pregnancy focused. Please let the teacher know at the start of the class. On Sundays we have specific pregnancy classes. You can start at any time during the course and we have different options available to you.

Can I still attend the class if I’m late?

it is preferable if you only attend 5 minutes after the start, but please do come in if you have been running late.

Can I do yoga when I’m menstruating?

Yes you can, depending on how you feel. We are cautious of inversions such as head or shoulderstand where you could potentially reverse the blood flow and we don't go 'all out' with core work. This will be explained within the class.

Can I do yoga if I have an injury?

You need to get an agreement from your Doctor first and if you acquire injuries during the term you should update the teacher and consult your GP.

Can I get changed at the hall?

Yes, there is toilet and small cloakroom that can be used for this.

Miscellaneous:

Shoes are left outside the room.

Umbrellas are also to be left on the stairwell.

The downstairs door handle can sometimes be difficult to turn. It is necessary to pull the handle all the way down. If this doesn’t appear to work – ring the bell on the right hand side of the door.
