Benefits of gait therapy

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Tish is offering gait therapy sessions and 3d yoga in Earlsfield.  How can this help you?

What do you already know about your feet?  Perhaps you have bunions or your toes curl to one side, high arches or flat feet.  Maybe you know you don’t have the movement in your feet that you once did.  Check your shoes.  Do they rub on one side?  Your feet affect movement through the whole body.  Do you have knee pain, hip issues or persistent back problems.  This may come down the chain to your feet, or problems in the feet run have run up the chain affecting other areas.

Various external influences may have taken your body off centre, anything from an accident to cold weather.  Your body is brilliant and will compensate perfectly, but inevitably with tension.  Gait Therapy uses three dimensional dynamic stretching to mobilise joints and soft tissue, and enable the body to find a state of balance – that’s a pain free perfect state.

Gait therapy has many more benefits…think of your body really completely free of tension.  You would probably stand tall, walk lightly, run, jump and skip with a glowing look on your face.  Your posture would be perfect and body language welcoming.  And you would feel improved performance in all movement and exercise.  Your mind and thoughts are inextricably linked to your body so bringing a sense of lightness to the body brings happiness to the mind.  You literally allow the stress to leave your body and your mind.

3D movement is also simply great exercise. All your joints work in 3D so the exercises mobilize the joints throughout the whole body.  Maybe you enjoy lunges or squats.  But have you ever made them 3D i.e. lunge and reach forward, or squat and rotate.  Your body will have to work harder.  Your heart rate will go up.  You will massively improve your fitness.  Imagine core exercises 3D…not only would your target the stabilising muscles of the body but achieve that girdle of strength in every movement you do, from the moment you walk away.  This takes classic core or pilates exercises to another level.

Tish is offering gait therapy in a hall or studio (in Earlsfield or Wimbledon, London) the comfort of your own home, or if the weather is nice, outside.  Available times are early morning or during the day, early evening before 6:45pm, Friday evening and weekends. To book please contact Tish on 07887850882 or email Tish at info@anoushkasyoga.com.  Prices start from £90 for non yoga students.  Discounts are available for those booked on a yoga course.

Gait Therapy – next generation movement therapy

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Do you feel your body is holding you back?  Would you like to move more efficiently?  Are you having problems with back pain, foot, knee, hip problems.  Tish from Anoushka’s Yoga is training with AiM (Anatomy in Motion) using revolutionary techniques to ease or completely eliminate movement problems quickly and efficiently. The technique is a new form of gait therapy (how you move when you walk) using 3d movement to subconsciously change the way your body moves and break through any physical barriers.

We all have various imbalances in the body.  Left to grow, these can cause injury and pain.  Through AiM techniques we bring the body back to centre by correcting poor gait habits.  You literally walk out of the session with improved movement and improved function across the whole body.

What happens in a session?

Tish will assess how you walk in bare feet and do a series of static and dynamic tests to see the imbalances in the body.  This in itself is enlightening as it gives you a much greater awareness of how you move.  You may now understand why your shoes have burnt out on one side.

You will then be taken through a series of 3d exercises to correct these imbalances, taking the body back to it’s natural state of fluid, pain free movement.  Effectively we correct how you walk.  You will walk out of the session, with your body having naturally taken these changes on board.

The session may include some hard work but you will have the knowledge you have improved performance throughout your whole body.  It may also include a thai foot massage, assessing movement through the foot.

For more information, please call Tish on 07887850882 or email: info@anoushkasyoga.com.

Tish is working with Anatomy in Motion at Level 3.
